Thursday Afternoon Arrival (Lullaby for Skipper Leigh)

by Bill Reid & The Fewer Sorrows Band

You just arrived on Thursday afternoon,

To start a special future all your own.

To meet us and to join your sister June

And show us all your tiny, perfect face.

The little family that you now complete —

Not quite enough; it needed one more girl —

Began with Mom and Dad and June so sweet.

And now you’re here, all set to take your place.

We know you’ll laugh and smile, and sometimes cry,

And do the things that all good babies do

As days and weeks and years go quickly by,

And all your futures come and go too soon.

We’ll see you in your home before too long.

The days go slowly ’till we’re there with you.

And I’ll just sit and write this little song

For you who came on Thursday afternoon.
